ITV STUDIOS SIGNS FURTHER DEAL

FOR THE AUDIENCE IN AUSTRALIA

Latest deal takes the format into production in five territories worldwide

28 May 2012 – ITV Studios has signed a new deal for brand new format The Audience, created by independent production company The Garden. Network Ten in Australia has commissioned the series, taking it into production in five territories worldwide.

These deals follow the news that TF1 has commissioned a series of the show from ITV Studios France and ITV Studios Global Entertainment has closed a deal with RTL 4 in the Netherlands.

Paul Buccieri, Managing Director ITV Studios International and President & CEO ITV Studios America said: “Broadcasters around the world are eager to secure the rights to The Audience. This is testament to the originality of The Garden format, which sees an individual who is at a crossroads in their life draw on the wisdom of a crowd to solve their predicament. We look forward to working with our partners around the world to start local productions of this unique show.”

The Audience is an innovative new format from the creators of the BAFTA award-winning One Born Every Minute and the producers of 24 Hours in A&E at The Garden. In each episode, The Audience meets someone at a crossroads with a life-changing decision to make. To answer their big dilemma, they open up their life to The Audience – 50 ordinary people of diverse age and backgrounds who follow them constantly for a week, and draw on their collective life experience to solve the protagonist’s problem. Leaving no stone unturned, The Audience meet friends, family and colleagues to find out where the trouble really lies. Can The Audience bring the wisdom of the crowd to bear for people in need and change their lives for the better?

In the UK The Audience is currently in production by The Garden for Channel 4.

The Australian commission is executive produced by Leonie Lowe, MD, Granada Australia.
